Surgery to correct the upper lip

Upper lip lifting surgery means correction of the white and pink part of the upper lip with the aim of obtaining aesthetic proportions in the lower third of the face.

Aesthetically, the face is divided into three parts on a horizontal plane. The lower third of the face is the area between the base of the nose and the lower edge of the chin. The ideal proportions for this lower third of the face are respectively 1/3 from the base of the nose to the lower edge of the upper lip, and 2/3 from the lower edge of the upper lip to the edge of the chin.

The vertical length of the pinky part of the lower lip is, ideally, twice as long as that of the upper lip. The magic ratio of the pinky part of the lower lip to the upper lip is 1.5:1 to 2:1.

Anatomical parts of the upper lip:

1. Anatomically, by the white part of the upper lip, we mean the area of ​​tissue between the base of the nose and the pink part of the upper lip.

2. The pink part of the upper lip, or vermilion.

Upper lip correction is performed for both young patients and elderly patients. As we age, due to tissue changes, the white part of the upper lip lengthens, while the pink part loses volume and visually narrows.

Correction operations for the white part of the upper lip are different and are aimed at solving certain problems.

1. “gull-wings” upper lip correction is a method aimed at correcting the borders and volume of the pink part of the upper lip. Basically, it is performed for patients over 60 years old.

2. “bullhorn” upper lip correction surgery. The most commonly used method, the aim of which is to reduce the white part of the upper lip and raise the pink part. The fold line is just below the base of the nose.

3. “Italian” upper lip correction – a modification of the previous operation, in which case there are two small turns under each nostril area. minimal correction with the aim of reducing the white part of the lip

4. V-Y correction . The purpose of the method is to increase the volume of the pink part of the lips.

5. SMAS lip correction. This operation is performed simultaneously with face correction.

6. Lifting of the corners of the lips. Performed on patients whose anatomically the corners of the lips are turned inward, creating a sad visual image. the purpose of the operation is to visually raise the corners of the lips.

Upper lip correction or lifting is suitable for patients:

1. Giving volume to flat or thin lips

2. It is necessary to reduce the distance between the nose and the pink part of the upper lip

3. Correction of asymmetrical lips

Operations can be performed both under local and general (intubation) anesthesia. The average length of the operation is 45-60 minutes. After the operation, the patient can go home. Post-operative period until complete wound healing is 14 days on average.
