Description of the procedure
Labiaplasty or vulval surgery is carried out in a day hospital. In terms of time, it takes about an hour, the total stay in the clinic varies from 2 to 3 hours.
The procedure begins with anesthesia. Depending on the indications, local anesthesia or sedation – medical sleep is used.
Further, depending on the chosen technique, the patient is given filler injections, lipomodelling, or a classic operation on the labia. In the latter case, the surgeon performs tissue excision with a scalpel or radio wave energy, gives the labia the necessary shape and applies cosmetic sutures. Basically, self-absorbable threads are used, which do not need to be removed after healing.
Sometimes the correction of the labia minora is combined with clitoris and / or vaginoplasty – a reduction in the vagina. This allows you to achieve an even more aesthetic result.
Duration of the surgery
on average 1.5 hours.
Anaesthesia
local, epidural or general.
Treatment
in an out-patient setting or hospital.
Convalescence
Labia reduction is performed without hospitalization, so a couple of hours after the operation, the patient can leave the clinic and return home.
The rehabilitation period takes from 2 weeks to a month. In the early days, there may be swelling, redness and increased sensitivity in the genital area. In this case, severe pain, bleeding and other painful symptoms should not be.
A re-examination by a gynecologist is usually prescribed on days 3, 14 (if stitches need to be removed) and 30 days to control healing.
Most patients easily tolerate lipoplasty and recover quickly after it. Many people return to work the day after the operation and lead a normal life.
Result: the effect is permanent.
Labiaplasty performed as a reduction surgery is meant to be a one-time, long-lasting procedure. Unless complications develop, you may never need this surgery again. Enhancement labiaplasty with injections of fat or fillers may need additional “touch-ups” over time.
You should know that if you choose to have children after your procedure, your labiaplasty may be affected. Many people choose to wait to have their labiaplasty until after they’ve completed their families.
Under what anesthesia is the operation performed?
The operation is performed under general anesthesia in combination with local anesthesia.
Where are the cuts localized?
The techniques of surgery and the location of the incisions are different, it depends on the shape of the small labia – where the hypertrophy is more pronounced, and on the degree of hypertrophy.
How long is the postoperative rehabilitation period?
During four weeks after the operation, it is necessary to follow the doctor’s recommendations, and wound care should be performed.
Is skin thread removal always performed after surgery?
Nowadays, unless special situations arise, it is not necessary to remove the threads after correcting the labia minora. Self-absorbing threads are applied during the operation.
