Duration of the operation

An endoscopic forehead lift requires certain conditions for a successful recovery. After forehead lift, is used an elastic bandage, which is usually removed on the 1st or 2nd day after the operation. Bruising and swelling disappear within 2-3 weeks. A few months after forehead lift, it is necessary to limit exposure to the sun.

The result

Forehead lift helps to look younger, prevents the appearance of a frustrated and rough facial expression, the effect lasts for 5-10 years.

Operation information

Several surgical techniques are available, depending on the severity of the existing changes and the individual characteristics of each patient.

During the examination of the patient, the localization of the eyebrows, the line of hair growth and the aesthetic condition of the eyelids are evaluated. Eyebrow ptosis can be both a single condition that causes a misleading visual change in the upper eyelids (excess skin fold or pseudo-dermatochalasis) and in combination with upper eyelid dermatochalasis. The complaint of younger patients is about age-related visual changes in the eye area, which creates a visually sad, tired picture. Elderly patients usually experience eyebrow ptosis, which is combined with eyelid dermatochalasis, or excess skin and/or fatty tissue or fat bags.

CONTRAINDICATIONS FOR THE OPERATION

  • Chronic, untreated, uncontrolled diseases.
  • Increased risk of bleeding (problems with blood clotting, the patient is taking medicines to reduce blood clotting (e.g., aspirin and similar medicines intake should be suspended 2 weeks before surgery and resumed no sooner than 2 weeks after surgery).
  • The absolute contraindication is lagophthalmos or inability to completely close the eyelids.

The operation, depending on the type and extent of the operation, should be performed under local, intravenous or general anesthesia.

The expected duration of the operation, depending on the type of operation, ranges from 30 to 90 minutes.

TYPES OF OPERATIONS

Depending on the local location, the degree of eyebrow ptosis, the scope of correction required, the patient is offered one of the following eyebrow lifting methods.

Direct eyebrow lifting

Suitable for elderly patients who need eyebrow lifting, which could be performed in a short time, outpatient, under local anesthesia. The disadvantage of the method is a visible scar above the eyebrow.

Endoscopic eyebrow lifting

The method provides a good visualization of anatomical structures, lifting the tissue in the forehead area is performed subperiosteally, which minimizes the possibility of damage to the sensory nerves. The operation is performed through 3-5 skin incisions in the scalp, each 1-2 cm long.

The method is suitable for patients with mild or moderate eyebrow ptosis including the need for correction of the glabellar area.

Coronary incision

Three different locations of the cut are shown. The method is suitable for patients with moderate to severe eyebrow ptosis. The method can be combined with facelift surgery. The priority of the method is a stable and long-lasting result. Deficiencies of the method can include an alopecia area or unsatisfactory scar in the incision area.

Limited cut of the front hairline skin

The incision of the skin is localized in the forehead area along the hairline. The method is suitable for patients with moderate or severe eyebrow ptosis. Additional hairline reduction can be performed. When using this method, the patient should take into account the visible scar of the skin along the course of the hairline, as well as sensory disturbances in the hair growth area.

Temporal or crotaphitic section

The cut of the skin is localized in the area of the temples, in the hair growth area. Tissues are raised above the deep temporal fascia to the edge of the orbit, the supraorbital edge. The tissues are lifted and fixed at the required tension. The method can be combined with upper eyelid blepharoplasty and transpalpebar correction of the medial, glabellar area of the eyebrows.

Transpalpebral approach

An upper eyelid blepharoplasty incision approach is used to perform the operation. The method is ideal for patients who require correction of the glabellar area, but do not require eyebrow lifting in the central and lateral part. Sensory nerve damage is more common with this method.

Recovery

The postoperative period is different for each surgical technique. In general, the patient should expect to have subcutaneous hemorrhage, edema and discomfort in the first weeks after surgery. Bandage changes will be required. If the wounds are closed with non-absorbable sutures, the evacuation of the sutures is performed in the second week after surgery. In the postoperative period, the necessary medications are prescribed (antibacterial therapy, analgesic therapy).
