Brow lift

Browlifting is an aesthetic operation that allows you to correct the position of the eyebrows, tighten the skin on the forehead in order to give the eyes and face a fresher, younger look. The operation is suitable for both women and men. The drooping of the skin on the forehead is manifested by the lowering of the eyebrow line and the appearance of deep wrinkles on the forehead. These signs of aging can be removed by forehead plastic surgery – the so-called forehead lift or brow lift.

INDICATIONS FOR BROWLIFTING:

  • Lowered eyebrows, violation of their shape, asymmetry.
  • The visual effect of an angry look or fatigue.
  • Flabbiness in the forehead, upper third of the face, base of the nose.
  • Enlarged upper eyelids, their heaviness or drooping.
  • Deep interbrow or frontal wrinkles, “crow’s feet”.

Information about the operation

Aesthetic lines for men and women

Aesthetic lines are different for men and women. The shape of women’s eyebrows is assumed to be curved. Their highest point is lateral to the outer edge of the iris, the eyebrow at all levels is above the edge of the bone. The position of the lateral part of the eyebrows is 5-10 mm above the edge of the orbital bone.

In men, the position of the eyebrows is more horizontal, located directly on the edge of the orbital bone. Of course, it is necessary to take into account the anatomical features of each patient, here the photo of youth helps.

Choose the most suitable eyebrow correction

Based on the changes, the most appropriate method for eyebrow correction should be chosen.

Eyebrow lifting techniques

  • Botulinum toxin A injections. The technique is suitable for patients who need a small lifting of the lateral or outer parts of the eyebrows. The injection is given in the lateral part of the eyebrows. The duration of exposure is individual (2-6 months). This lasts as long as the medicine is working, but the injections need to be repeated. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, in a counseling office, and a recovery period is not required. Special recommendations must be followed after the procedure.
  • Eyebrow lifting with subcutaneous thread method. The method is more effective in combination with botulinum toxin A. Suitable for patients with a slight degree of sagging of the eyebrows’ outer part. Manipulation is performed under local anesthesia, outpatient. The duration of exposure is 1-1.5 years.
  • Transblepharoplasty. Eyebrow correction is performed with the same incision used for upper eyelid correction. Advantages – no separate cut required. The method is suitable for the correction of small ptoses. The surgery is performed in a surgical operating room, under local anesthesia. Manipulation is outpatient, no hospitalization is required. The average duration of the surgery is 1 h. In the postoperative period, edema and subcutaneous hematoma are observed. Rehabilitation time is on average 2-3 weeks.
  • Direct eyebrow lifting. The incision is made above the hairy part of the eyebrows. Excess skin is evacuated during the surgery. Easy to perform, more common in elderly patients. It also applies to patients for whom surgery under general anesthesia is not suitable due to various circumstances. A good method to correct eyebrows in case of asymmetry. It is more common in men. The surgery is performed under local anesthesia. Duration – 30-60 min. The surgery is outpatient, after which you can go home. In the postoperative period, edema, subcutaneous hematomas, which gradually decrease over 2 weeks, is observed. Disadvantages of the method – the risk that there will be a visible scar.
  • Forehead correction along horizontal forehead facial lines. The incision is planned so that the scar is embedded in the horizontal forehead lines. The method is good for correcting eyebrow asymmetry, moderate and pronounced eyebrow ptosis. The surgery is performed under local anesthesia. Duration of the surgery – 30-60 minutes. It is an outpatient surgery. There is a risk that there will be a visible scars. In the postoperative period, edema, subcutaneous haemorrhage has been observed, which gradually decreases over 2-3 weeks.
  • Endoscopic eyebrow lifting. The surgery is performed with 5 small incisions in the hairy part, special endoscopy instruments are used. Suitable surgery for small and moderate eyebrow sagging (ptosis). Botulinum toxin injections are given before surgery to relax the facial muscles. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia, its duration is 1-1.5 h. The patient stays in the hospital for one day. Edema and subcutaneous haematomas are observed in the postoperative period. A compression bandage must be worn.
  • Pretrichial incision. The cut line runs along the hair growth line. The method is suitable for patients with eyebrow ptosis. It is also useful for patients who have a high forehead and/or need to lower their hair growth line. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia, its average duration is 1 hour. After the surgery, the patient spends one day in a hospital. The patient should expect a slightly visible scar on the scalp.
  • Coronal incision. It is located in the hairy part of the head, which extends from one ear to the other. It can be combined with a face lift operation. The method is suitable for patients with moderate or severe sagging of the eyebrows, patients with deep horizontal forehead folds, loss of skin turgor (tone). The surgery is performed under general anesthesia, its duration is 1-1.5 h. The patient stays in the hospital for one day after the surgery. The swelling and bruising under the skin gradually disappear within two weeks. The advantage of manipulation is that there are no visible scars. For patients without hair, such surgery is not recommended because the scar is long and cannot be hidden. In such patients, direct eyebrow lifting or correction using horizontal forehead folds is more recommended.
  • Temporal incision. The method is suitable for lifting the lateral part of the eyebrows. Suitable for moderate and pronounced eyebrow ptosis. The cut line is in the hairy part of the temples or next to the hair growth line. The surgery is more often performed under general anesthesia, its duration is 1 h.

Endoscopic eyebrow lift

1 – direct eyebrow lifting
2 – forehead incision or eyebrow lift with incision localized in forehead facial / horizontal fold
3 – temporal eyebrow lift through incision in temple area, it is often connected to a face lift incision along the front of the ear
4 – endoscopic eyebrow lifting
5 – pretrichial eyebrow lifting
6 – coronal eyebrow lifting

Botulinum toxin injections A.

The technique is suitable for patients who require a slight lift of the lateral or outer part of the eyebrows. The injection is injected into the lateral part of the eyebrows. The duration of exposure is individual (2-6 months) and lasts as long as the medication works, but injections must be repeated. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, in a consultation room, the recovery period is not required. After the procedure, special recommendations must be followed.

Eyebrow lift using a hypodermic thread

The method is more effective in combination with botulinum toxin A. Suitable for patients with a slight degree of tissue sagging on the outer part of the eyebrows. Manipulation is performed under local anesthesia, on an outpatient basis. The duration of exposure is 1-1.5 years.

Transconjunctival blepharoplasty

Correction or fixation of the eyebrows is performed with the same incision as for the correction of the upper eyelids. Advantages – a separate incision is not required. This method is suitable for the correction of small ptosis. The operation is performed in the operating room under local anesthesia. Manipulation is outpatient, stationary is not required. The duration of the operation is on average 1 hour. In the postoperative period, there is swelling, subcutaneous hematoma. The rehabilitation period is on average 2-3 weeks.

Direct lifting (tightening) of the eyebrows

An incision is made above the upper hairy part of the eyebrow. During the operation, excess skin is removed. Easy to perform, most often used in older patients. It is also used in patients for whom surgery under general anesthesia is not suitable due to various circumstances. A good method for correcting eyebrows with asymmetry. The direct facelift is most commonly used in men.

The operation is performed under local anesthesia. Duration – 30-60 min. The operation is outpatient, after which you can go home. In the postoperative period, edema, subcutaneous hematomas are observed, which gradually decrease over 2 weeks. The disadvantage of the method is the risk that scars will be visible. The price of an eyebrow lift is calculated individually.

Forehead correction along the horizontal mimic folds of the forehead

The incision is planned so that the scar enters the horizontal grooves on the forehead. The method is suitable for correcting eyebrow asymmetry, moderate and severe brow ptosis. The operation is performed under local anesthesia. The duration of the operation is 30-60 minutes. This is an outpatient operation. There is a risk that scars will be visible. In the postoperative period, edema and subcutaneous hemorrhages are observed, which gradually decrease over 2-3 weeks.

Endoscopic brow lift

An endoscopic brow lift is performed through 5 small incisions in the scalp, using special endoscopic instruments. The eyebrow lifting operation is suitable for mild to moderate sagging (ptosis) of the eyebrows. Before the operation, botulinum toxin injections are made to relax the mimic muscles. The operation is performed under general anesthesia, its duration is 1-1.5 hours. The patient stays in the hospital for 1 day. In the postoperative period, edema and subcutaneous hematomas are observed. A compression bandage must be worn. The price of an endoscopic brow lift is calculated individually.

Pretrichial incision

The incision line runs along the hairline. The method is suitable for patients with ptosis of the eyebrows. Also suitable for patients who have a high forehead and/or need to lower their hairline. The operation is performed under general anesthesia, the average duration is 1 hour. After the operation, the patient remains in the hospital for 1 day. The patient must reckon with a slightly noticeable scar in the scalp.

Coronal section

An incision is made behind the hairline from one ear to the other. Can be combined with face lift surgery. The method is suitable for patients with moderate or severe sagging of the eyebrows, patients with deep horizontal forehead wrinkles, loss of skin turgor (tone). The operation is performed under general anesthesia, its duration is 1-1.5 hours. After the operation, the patient stays in the hospital for 1 day. Edema and subcutaneous bruising gradually disappear within two weeks. The advantage of manipulation is that there are no visible scars. For patients with bald patches, this operation is not recommended because the incision scar is long and cannot be hidden. Such patients are more recommended to do a direct brow lift or correction of the eyebrows along the horizontal mimic folds of the forehead.

Temporal cut

The method is suitable for lifting the lateral part of the eyebrows. Suitable for moderate to severe brow ptosis. The incision line is located in the scalp of the temples or along the hairline. The operation is often performed under general anesthesia, the duration is 1 hour.

Postoperative period

It is expected that there will be local edema, subcutaneous hematomas, moderate pain, which will gradually disappear within two weeks. The final result is observed after 6 months. Some eyebrow correction methods require botulinum toxin blockade in addition before surgery.

The plastic surgeon will tell you more about the preparation and postoperative features of each operation during the consultation.

Additional methods

  • Injection of own adipose tissue – the method is used in patients who experience the disappearance of orbital and temporal subcutaneous adipose tissue and the formation of “pits”.
  • Botulinum toxin A injections are good for correcting facial wrinkles and smoothing small wrinkles, which together with the surgery improves the visual image and prolongs the result.
  • Various facial skin healing apparatus procedures improve the overall result (laser therapy, dermabrasion, chemical peeling).
