Brachioplasty - Arm lift, shoulder correction

Brachioplasty is a type of plastic surgery when the excess amount of hanging skin and adipose tissue on the arms in the shoulder area is eliminated. This correction becomes necessary with age when the skin loses its elasticity and does not hold its shape, which can cause aesthetic discomfort. Along with this, the mentioned deformations can develop as a result of intensive weight loss, when the fat layer decreases and excess skin volume appears. Usually, such a problem occurs on the inside of the arm, localized in the area from the shoulder to the elbow.

Lifting the skin of the hands allows you to restore tone, and eliminate excessively sagging skin. In some cases, Brachioplasty is performed in combination with liposuction to remove excess fat or is itself an additional procedure as a result of such an intervention.

Information about the operation

Description of the procedure for tightening the skin on the hands

Brachioplasty or hand skin tightening surgery is carried out in stages and includes the application of surgical markings, antiseptic treatment of the skin in the correction zone, anesthesia, liposuction (in the presence of fatty deposits), soft tissue incision, excision of sagging skin, matching edges and suturing.

Depending on the severity of the problem, various surgical techniques can be used to operate. With a slight sagging of soft tissues, the surgeon performs trans axillary brachioplasty, in which the incision is made in the form of an ellipse in the axillary region, and the area of sagging is surgically eliminated.

After stitching, the scar is hidden in the armpit.

If the degree of skin sagging is significant, traditional arm brachioplasty is performed. Access to soft tissues is carried out through an incision on the inner surface of the shoulder. When tightening loose skin, the surgeon performs a T-shaped incision; to correct sagging more elastic skin, the incision is S-shaped.

Duration of the surgery

1 to 2 hours.

Anaesthesia

regional or general.

Treatment

usually in an out-patient setting.

Convalescence

Some days after the surgery, discomfort and a slight burning pain can be felt in the operated place. Return to work is possible after 2 weeks, larger physical loads can be restarted after 2 to 4 weeks, oedema and bruises disappear completely within 1 month.

FAQ

Is upper arm correction always done only with skin incisions?

Upper arm correction can be done with:

(a) the liposuction method
