Lower and upper eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty)

The eyes, best of all body parts, reflect the self-feeling of a person. If the eyes are sparkling and watchful, the person is energetic, relaxed and satisfied. But if there are small bags and dark circles under the eyes, as well as slipped eyelids, an impression can occur that you are angry, worried or unhappy. If this is the case, then it is time to consider cosmetic surgery of the eyelids.

Eyelid correction surgery

Procedure: slipped eyelids, bags, and dark circles under the eyes are removed by the excision of excess fat tissue, skin and muscle tissue around the eyes. Wounds are sutured with thin threads leaving almost invisible scars.

Duration of the surgery: 1 to 3 hours.

Anaesthesia: local, combined with sedatives, or general.

Treatment: in an out-patient setting, with the concomitant correction of both the upper and lower eyelid, the patient spends the first postoperative night in hospital.

Convalescence: to reduce oedema and the occurrence of bruises, cold compresses are recommended. A person can already read 2 to 3 days after the eyelid correction surgery, the wearing of contact lenses can be restarted after 2 weeks or later, alcohol can be consumed after 3 weeks. Bruises and oedema last for 2 to 3 weeks. After 6 to 8 months the scars gradually become lighter and more invisible and then are not visible at all.

Results: eyelid correction surgery helps patients to look younger, the effect lasts for several years; sometimes it is permanent.
